About the University of Padova
The University of Padova is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe, founded in 1222. Palazzo Bo is the historic heart of the university and has hosted many illustrious personalities over the centuries, including Galileo Galilei, who was a professor at the university in the 17th century.

Aula Magna Palazzo Bo – the first-day venue
Palazzo Bo in Padova is a historic building that houses the main offices and classrooms of the University of Padova. It is one of the oldest university buildings in the world and holds great cultural and historical significance. Palazzo Bo dates back to the late 16th century and features a blend of architectural styles, including Gothic and Renaissance elements. It served as the centre of academic life in Padova and has witnessed centuries of intellectual pursuits and discoveries. The appellation ‘Bo’ derives precisely from the name of the inn (Hospitium Bovis) that was part of its oldest core, and even today, emblematically, the symbol of the University remains the bucranium. One of the notable features of Palazzo Bo is the Aula Magna, a grand hall where official ceremonies, conferences, and lectures are held. The Aula Magna is adorned with frescoes and elaborate decorations, creating an inspiring environment for academic gatherings. Another significant area within Palazzo Bo is the Anatomical Theatre, a historical anatomical lecture room. Built-in 1595, it was the first permanent anatomical theatre in the world. The circular design allowed students to observe dissections and anatomical demonstrations from a central viewpoint.
